Bloody squirting heart

I don’t know what’s funnier, the idea that this was on display at a black tie affair at the ritzy Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York City, or the cheery music being played in the background as the costume-shop heart “beats” and squirts blood all over the inside of its plexiglass box.

My favorite part: the end, where the mom and her kid are grinning and staring at it. That’s a cool mom.

Stop borrowing that gateway to hell and get your own damned puzzle box

Hey, freeloader! Opening up the doors to eternal suffering and pleasure isn’t free, ya know! Stop borrowing your carved-up friend’s Lemarchand box and get your own! These great looking replicas of the box from the first (and only decent) Hellraiser movie are sure to frighten your frightenable friends who’ve seen the movie. If they haven’t, you might have to explain that if you leave them alone in the room with the box, hooks might fly into their face. Hey, nobody said solving the box was easy.

Nor is it cheap: a lacquered wood and brass model goes for $100 a box. A fancier looking model with an actual music box inside–the better to recreate the puzzle solving ambiance–from Pyramid Gallery goes for $125 (see photo).

But remember, if you’re too cheap/poor to afford the real-looking item, there’s always the plastic knock-off, which isn’t a bad find at under $20, so long as you don’t pick it up and realize it weighs about as much as a an empty Altoids tin.

False teeth ice trays

Turn every day into “clean your dentures” day! I saw these false teeth ice trays online at wowzzers.com for $9, and I was immediately impressed by how they promised to lend a slightly gruesome twist to any drink. A few weeks later, I found the same product in a local store for a bit less and bought it.

My verdict: awesome, but a pain in the ass to get out of the tray–all those teeth have to be pried loose. Luckily the tray is soft rubber and I’ve never had one break yet. Just be sure to start freezing weeks in advance if you plan on entertaining with them, because a single tray only freezes four at a time.

Here’s an action shot of my own frozen false teeth melting in my hand:
