75 and 77-year-old ladies convicted of murders

Take “Arsenic and Old Lace” and pull out everything funny, and swap out homeless men for kindly old suitors. Oh, and use cars to run them down, instead of poisoned elderberry wine. And the motive is money instead of senility.

Oh hell, just forget the play. Two elderly women in L.A. have been convicted of murdering two homeless men in a couple of cold-hearted insurance fraud plots.

Olga Rutterschmidt, 75, and Helen Golay, 77, lured two men away from the homeless community in Hollywood, gave them food and shelter for two years, and took out numerous insurance policies in their names.

The women then killed the men in staged hit-and-run accidents and left their mangled bodies in Los Angeles alleyways. After the men were dead, the women collected $2.8 million US in their names.

The article says prosecutors didn’t seek the death penalty for either woman, “but the convictions carry life prison terms without possibility of parole.”
